The Highways Agency are carrying out a £120m scheme to upgrade the carriageway to a ‘managed motorway.’

The scheme, which is due to be completed by September next year, will see hard shoulders become permanent lanes in both directions, between junction 39 at Durkar and junction 42 at Lofthouse, with the aim of increasing capacity and easing congestion.

There will also be overnight slip road closures as part of the works.

The southbound exit slip at junction 39 at Durkar will also be closed tonight.
