A MULTI-MILLION pound scheme to ease congestion on the M62 started this week.

The government’s roads minister Mike Penning was at Junction 27 yesterday to mark the start of the £150m scheme on the motorway, which will run from J25 at Brighouse and J30 at Rothwell and will see the hard shoulder used as a fourth lane to aid traffic flow. The first phase is between J27 and J28.

Mr Penning said: “I am delighted work is under way to provide much-needed additional capacity for more than 140,000 road users that travel on this key route daily.”
