A band which rocked the pubs and clubs of North Kirklees 30 years ago is still producing music – from Austria.
We featured a 1984 picture of goth rockers Malice Virus in our nostalgia pages last month and asked if anyone wanted to share memories of the band with us.
Former guitarist Roger Lord has been in touch since then to tell us what the band are doing now.
After the group disbanded in 1986, Roger went back to college to complete his A-levels, before studying for a degree.
He now lives in Salzburg, Austria and runs his own translation business, but admits the spirit of Malice Virus has never left him.
“I can’t speak for the other members of Malice Virus, or for the other bands, but once you’ve enjoyed that feeling of doing your own music with friends, you look for it everywhere you go and it never leaves you,” he said.
“Between 1986 and now I never actually stopped making music. Everything I’ve ever done has felt like a continuation of Malice Virus, so a couple of years ago I decided to start uploading songs to the internet.
“I now play all the parts and sing. There are no compromises, no arguments and no bad blood, but the one thing I will never be able to replace is the ‘we’ a band gives you.
“And the one thing I will never be able to do is sing as well as Pat – even if it’s taken me 30 years to admit it.”
