BECOMING the dancing queen was a dream come true for Spen entertainer Emma Crossley.
For within days of joining the cast of West End smash hit musical Mamma Mia!, she had to step in for the starring role.
The woman playing lead character Sophie fell ill and, as understudy, Emma got her big chance.
Her proud mum Pamela Crossley said: “It went amazingly well. Emma said the first show was tense and that she was nervous, but that it was better the next day and she really enjoyed it.
“Her dream was to appear in the West End but to cover for the leading role was beyond all her hopes.”
Mamma Mia! is a West End debut for 27-year-old Emma from Liversedge. But the former Whitcliffe Mount School pupil has a string of theatre credits to her name. She starred in the UK tour of We Will Rock You and has also had parts in Coronation Street and A Touch of Frost.
“But Mamma Mia! was the one she really wanted to do,” said Pamela, who went to the opening night with Emma’s dad, Richard.
“And she has just signed a one-year contract for the show.
“Emma has worked so hard to get to where she is. Hopefully, Mamma Mia! will lead to yet more success.”
Mamma Mia! is at the Prince of Wales Theatre until September 1, after which it moves to the Novello Theatre.
