Man is arrested with 16kg of heroin

A man was arrested after Border Force officials at Manchester Airport seized 16kg of heroin.

The seizure was made after officers carried out luggage checks on baggage on a flight arriving from Lahore in Pakistan, via Abu Dhabi.

The drugs, which were discovered on Monday, were found inside a suitcase.

The 47-year-old, from Batley. was arrested and bailed until July 8.

The seizure was the second of the day after officers found another 16kg of heroin in a suitcase belonging to a couple.

Assistant director for Border Force, Phil Shields, said: “These are two excellent seizures by our officers.

“They have ensured that harmful drugs with a street value of many millions of pounds have been kept off our streets.

“We will continue to work hard to keep our borders safe and crack down on drug smuggling.”
