Man attacked at cash machine

The 29-year-old was withdrawing money from a cash machine at the Tesco Express in Smithies Moor Lane, Birstall, at around 8.16pm last Thursday.

Police say as he took his cash he was approached by a man who demanded the money and then hit him over the head when he refused to hand it over.

The attacker then fled empty handed towards the village centre after the victim tried to grab hold of him.

The suspect was white, 5ft 8ins to 5ft 9ins tall, slim and in his late 30s. He was wearing a black and grey hooded top with the hood up and dark coloured bottoms, spoke with a local accent and sounded rough.
