Man rescued from River Calder in Dewsbury

A man had to be rescued from the River Calder in Dewsbury and was then taken to hospital.

He was pulled from the river underneath the Asda walk way bridge, in Aldams Road, at around 12.30pm today (Tuesday).

The man was rescued by a hazardous area response team and taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

It is unknown how the man got into the river or why he was there.

A spokesman from West Yorkshire Police said enquiries were ongoing.
