A man charged with murdering a convicted sex offender has withdrawn his guilty plea.

Judge Collier told the deceased’s family, who were present, that Mr Mitchell must be allowed to make his case.

He said: “I’m very concious that you were hoping for some closure.”

He continued: “I’m sorry that we haven’t been able to bring the case to conclusion.”

The remains of Mr Hind’s body were found in the area of the River Colne, next to Colne Vale Road in Milnsbridge, last December after the 46-year-old was reported missing from Dewsbury.

A post mortem examination confirmed that he had died from strangulation and head injuries.

The trial continues on November 7.
