Masked men attempted to rob a taxi rank in Mirfield in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Police are appealing for information following the incident at around 2.45am when two masked men have entered the private hire office in Calder Road, Lower Hopton and made demands of a male staff member.

One of the men has stayed with the staff member while the other went to the office area and caused damage to a locked cabinet.

The men have left the premises empty handed.

The first man is described as white, around 5ft 9ins tall and of stocky build.

He was wearing a dark coloured long sleeved top, dark coloured tracksuit bottoms, dark coloured gloves and a dark coloured balaclava.

The other man is described as about 6ft 2ins tall and of medium build. He was wearing a light coloured long sleeved jacket with a hood, jogging bottoms, dark coloured gloves and a dark coloured balaclava.

Both are described as speaking with local accents.

Det Con Andy Clayton, of Kirklees Robbery Team, said: “We would urge anyone who saw two men matching the descriptions given in the area around the time of the offence to call the Kirklees Robbery Team on 101. Information can also be provided via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
