Megan, six, scales new heights for charity

When she realised there were poorly children who needed help, she threw herself into fundraising.

Mum Michelle said: “There is no stopping her when she puts her mind to something.”

So it’s no surprise to those who know Megan best that she’s preparing to climb Britain’s highest mountain in aid of Leeds Rugby Foundation.

Ms Rodd, 33, of Cliffe Street, Dewsbury, said: “She is a huge Leeds Rhino’s fan and we were at a match last year when she saw some people collecting money and asked what it was all about.

“I explained that some children need charity’s to help them because they are poorly or come from poor families, and Megan said she wanted to help them too.

“I didn’t think she would mention it again, but it is all she thinks about. Every penny she gets, from her spending money, to her money from the tooth fairy, is donated. I am so proud of her.”

The St Ignatius School pupil started raising money by baking and selling buns. She went on to organise a two-mile sponsored walk with Leeds Rhino’s mascot Ronnie the Rhino, which is set to become an annual event, and will climb Ben Nevis with him and her mum on Saturday, August 24.

Megan has never missed a Rhinos game in two years, but she is so dedicated to the cause, that she sold her much sought-after ticket for their game against Melbourne in February when she realised they were going for silly money.

Leeds Rugby Foundation’s chief executive Lucy Owen, said: “We can’t thank Megan enough.

“The Leeds Rugby Foundation can’t continue its great work, changing lives, without the help of people like Megan.

“She is making a real difference to people in the local community and she is a real inspiration to children and adults alike ”
