Staff at a Birkenshaw school have uncovered a treasure trove of memorabilia – and are inviting past pupils to come along and browse through it.
BBG Academy will open as a high school in September with a new build and refurbishment which will be completed over the summer holidays.
As part of the packing up process the staff discovered lots of memorabilia related to when it was Birkenshaw Middle School.
Headteacher Jo-Anne Atkinson said: “Much of this will have sentimental value to ex-pupils, ex-staff and ex-governors so BBG Academy is reluctant to just ‘skip’ it.
“So on Tuesday July 16 from 9am-11am the school will open up so that members of the public will be able to make a donation in order to take a memento.”
Highlights include the ‘Three Peaks’ pictures from the Hall and various sporting trophies.
Miss Atkinson said: “Birkenshaw Middle and its predecessor, Birkenshaw Secondary, educated the young people of the area for over 50 years. BBG Academy intends to build on that legacy and carry on that success into the future.”
