Men and women of the lycra: 10km run for priests

Priests are known for their discipline, goodwill and knowledge of the Bible.

But a group of six trainee Church of England priests will need more than just good faith when they take on a gruelling 10km obstacle course for charity.

The would-be priests – running under the name The Holy Hounds – are currently studying at Mirfield’s College of the Resurrection.

They will take part in The Wolf Run in Warwickshire in April, to raise money for Kirkwood Hospice.

The religious college students – John Russell, Trudy Hobson, Eddie Carr, Gemma Sampson, Patrick Griffin and Charlie Annis – will be joined by Ben Simmons, a chef at the college, at the event.

They will duck, dive and dash through the course which features woodland, lakes and boggy swamps.

Mr Simmons, 34, of Manor Park, Mirfield, said: “I’m looking forward to it – it’s all about raising money for charity and doing something different.

“I might have underestimated what I signed up for because it looks like it’s going to be difficult – but I have been training as hard as I can.”

The group hope to raise £2,000 for the hospice.

The Holy Hounds will be running in the event on Saturday April 11.
