Miracle dog escapes death on the M62

Four year-old canine Daisy suffered a broken leg when she was hit by a car near the Chain Bar roundabout between Junctions 26 and 27 of the M62 on October 12, but did not sustain any other long-term injuries despite the presence of tyre marks on her neck.

But Daisy’s elderly owner cannot afford to fund her beloved dog’s treatment, as she is not elegible for support from veterinary charity PDSA.

Daisy had an operation on her complex fracture 11 days ago and is recovering well, but the Yorkshire Rose Dog Rescue charity which is supporting her treatment, has warned that there is still a risk of the leg having to be amputated if it becomes infected.

Kind hearted members of the public have donated almost £1,700 of the original £2,000 target, but the charity now says it may need up to £3,000 to cover vet fees and the ongoing physio work Daisy needs.

Kathy Hirst, from Yorkshire Dog Rescue, said: “We would like to thank the people who stopped on the M62 and helped Daisy from the bottom of our hearts and wish we could thank them in person.

“Daisy’s had the operation on her leg and we’ve just got to see what happens now. She’s doing quite well but she still needs a lot of rehabilitation and physio. There is still the possibility of amputation.

The local community are trying to rally round and help but we now need close to £3,000 to cover the bills. Every pound raised will help.”
