Mirfield Show unveils its star attractions for 2012

CANCAN dancers on horseback. Cyclists throwing themselves through rings of fire. It can only be Mirfield Show!

With just four weeks to go until the big day, the organisers of Mirfield’s flagship summer event have unveiled their star attractions for 2012.

Following on from the success of last year’s llama agility display team, this year’s show promises to be as weird and wonderful as ever.

And despite the recent deluge, weather forecasters are expecting the sun to shine far brighter next month, in time for the event on Sunday August 19.

The bill for this year’s Mirfield Show includes Les Amis d’Onno, who say they are the UK’s top equestrian cancan dancing team.

Their performance will feature magnificent Friesian and Andalusian horses ridden by family dancing troupe Sue, Bethany and Jacob Martin.

Freestyle mountain bike stunt team Savage Skills will be the other main attraction, who will also be running cycling safety workshops throughout the day.

Between them, the team has won eight mountain bike world championships and 25 British titles.

The main performance will see riders flying off ramps, jumping over volunteers and hurling themselves through flaming obstacles.

Mirfield show chairwoman Karen Bullivant said: “It’s really quite difficult coming up with different attractions and we keep thinking each year, ‘How are we going to top that?’

“But it’s a case of bringing something different to other shows. We are just hoping that the weather improves and that the showground dries out a bit.”

Last year’s Mirfield Show pulled a record-breaking 14,000 into the showground in Huddersfield Road.

Popular attractions will be making a return this year, with dancers, cadets and bands all planning performances, and families are welcome to take a picnic.

Activities will include laser combat, archery, donkey rides, a climbing wall and a play beach, alongside animal, food and craft shows.
