Murder team appeal gets public calling

Police investigating the murder of a man who disappeared 16 years ago are following up calls from the public.

Bruce Gapper vanished from his Dewsbury Moor home in March 1999 on the day after a night out at Batley’s Frontier club.

Last week police appealed for new information from the community after turning Bruce’s case into a murder inquiry.

Det Chf Insp Mark McManus said: “We have received a number of calls from members of the public which are now being followed up.

“We would continue to urge anyone with information to get in contact. Someone in the community must know what happened to Bruce Gapper.

“It is now 16 years since he disappeared and allegiances and situations may have changed over this time, meaning that someone who felt unable to come forward at the time is now able to do so.”

Following his disappearance, Bruce’s bank card was used at an ATM in Heckmondwike in the early morning of March 15, 1999. It was also used in two other locations afterwards.
