Officer hospitalised after police chase
A police officer was hit by a car in Heckmondwike last night.
Kirklees CID would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident in Sunnyside, where an officer suffered leg injuries after being struck by a silver Vauxhall Astra.
It is one of three collisions which officers are linking.
The first incident happened in Bunkers Lane, Staincliffe, just after 8.20pm after a Ford Focus hit a parked Vauxhall Vectra and a parked Nissan Micra.
The suspect ran off from the scene.
At around 8.45pm, officers tried to stop a Vauxhall Astra in Sunnyside.
But the car drove off, narrowly missing a policeman and injuring another who was on foot.
The Astra hit a wall around mile away in Walkley Lane shortly after.
The officer’s injuries were not life-threatening but he was treated in Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield overnight.
A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with all three of the incidents and is in police custody today.
Det Insp Steph Wiseman, of Kirklees CID, said: “Enquiries are ongoing today into this series of incidents which we are linking and treating as one enquiry.
“I would like to speak to anyone who saw the initial collision on Bunker Lane, the collision in which the officer was injured on Sunnyside or the final incident on Walkey Lane in which the silver Astra was in collision with a wall.
“A 29 year old man remains in custody today in connection with these incidents.”
She added: “One of our officers received leg injuries in the second collision and needed hospital treatment.
“These injuries, while serious, were thankfully not life threatening but he remains in hospital for treatment.
“Anyone who has information is asked to contact Kirklees CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
