PLANS to demolition Littletown’s Old Oak Pub have been refused by council planners.

Developers wanted to demolish the pub, in Bradford Road, and build a new mini-supermarket but Kirklees has rejected the application due to the impact on the surrounding area.

Planners also highlighted the fact the pub was an undesignated heritage asset whichhad historic significance.

The pub is one of the few remaining buildings from the original village of Littletown, most of which was demolished to make way for the dual carriageway.

The decision comes after almost a year of uncertainty over the future of the pub.

At a public meeting last summer local people said they did not need another supermarket and wanted the building to be retained.
