On Sunday June 24 the Torch will pass through Huddersfield and it will reach Batley and Dewsbury on Monday June 25.

The flame will arrive in Batley at around 9.25am on the Monday.

It will be taken past the Batley town signs in Scotchman Lane and left into Timothy Lane at around 9.25am when a torchbearer will take it.

It will be carried into Batley Field Hill, along Mayman Lane and continue in Clerk Green Street then onto Dewsbury along Track Road.

The relay then turns left into Halifax Road, then left into Dewsbury Ring Road and winds through the town centre past Dewsbury Town Hall turning right into Longcauseway, left into Rishworth Road then right into Wakefield Road going past Chickenley Community School Playing Fields.

The Torch will then be taken along Wakefield Road to the roundabout, before it is picked-up to be taken to Wakefield.

Pat Ainsworth from Emley is one of the first Torchbearers confirmed to run in Kirklees. Pat was chosen because of her extensive charity fundraising activities which have seen her raise more than £120,000 from running marathons and taking part in major trek challenges in spite of having only one kidney and arthritis.

Pat said: “It is an honour and privilege to be chosen to take part in the Olympic Torch Relay in Huddersfield.

Kirklees Council Olympics and Paralympics Champion Coun Masood Ahmed said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Huddersfield, Batley and Dewsbury residents and surrounding communities in Kirklees to see the Olympic Flame and witness the spectacle of the Olympic Torch Relay.

“We are keen to encourage as many people as possible to bring the route to life and get involved by lining the streets to watch, with performances or by decorating the routes to make the whole day something really special and one to be remembered. We also hope that local communities will plan celebrations in their own areas.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the inspirational torchbearers to the community and celebrating the achievements of those from the Kirklees area.”

Kirklees Council is keen to hear from groups wanting to get involved with celebrations along the route. Contact Martin Gonzalez on 01484 234059 or email [email protected] for advice and information.
