One Community’s £18,500 gift to Kirklees voluntary groups

Volunteers running luncheon clubs, drop-in centres and social groups will be able to continue their work thanks to a charity’s support.

They were among more than 30 groups in Kirklees to win a share of around £18,500 handed out by One Community.

During a presentation evening in Huddersfield, successful groups received grants of up to £500 from six funds managed by the charitable foundation for Kirklees.

Chairman Sir John Harman said: “I want to say thank you to all of you for doing what you do.”

Roy Parry said Mirfield and District Over 50s Club would put the money towards transport for members.

He said: “ If we didn’t provide transport, they wouldn’t be able to get out.”

Batley Drop-In Centre plans to use its grant towards food parcels, while Trinity Methodist Church in Mirfield will use the money to furnish its new community room.
