Parishioners on their annual walk around the four parishes at Roberttown, Hartshead, Hightown and Scholes.

The Rev Richard Burge said: “It was a beautiful, sunny afternoon and a wonderful way to enjoy the area we live in. There was plenty of fun and laughter on the journey and a chance to chat to people along the way.”

The complete circuit, from Hartshead church, to Roberttown, then Hightown, Scholes and returning to Hartshead was just over eight miles.

Three of the walkers collected sponsorship for their walk.

Liam and Mark Atkinson raised over £500 towards repairing and protecting a broken window at St Barnabas Church, Hightown, and Malcolm Ward raised over £300 to help the parish of Ryagoro in Tanzania, which is linked to Hartshead Church through a Wakefield Diocese Scheme.

“It was wonderful that so many people joined in,” added Mr Burge.

“Around 30 people joined us for some part of the walk.

“And as always, there were excellent refreshments along the way to keep us going!”
