Hospital decision is ‘greatly welcomed’

The decision to refer the reconfiguration plans for our hospital trust back to the Secretary of State are to be greatly welcomed.

The real threat that they pose to Dewsbury Hospital has been lifted if only temporarily.

The elected councillors have spoken for the vast majority of people in north Kirklees demanding that the trust think again.

This is exactly what should happen – not ploughing ahead in spite of this decision as seems the current plan B.

It is the arrogance of trust leaders and clinicians that has got us to this point. More of the same is not an option.

Can I pay special thanks to the part played on the joint health scrutiny board by local councillors Liz Smaje, John Lawson and Eric Firth.

They did brilliantly, as did the Save our Local Hospital Services group which fought our corner from the very beginning together with Coun Karen Rowling.
