LETTERS: We have to cherish our gift of library

Cleckheaton’s purpose-built library, generously donated to local people by the far-sighted Mowat family, is still under serious threat.

The layout has proved adaptable to change so that we have a thoroughly modern library in a handsome older building.
In fact, the library makes an even greater contribution to the education and welfare of the community with 24 diverse activities regularly taking place.

In addition to the thriving book, poetry and craft groups, there are social gatherings for Coffee Plus and opportunities to play Scrabble.
The Mowats might be surprised to see the sport of curling within the premises or the Nordic walkers setting off on their trek and returning for refreshments.
A handy leaflet has details of all the library has to offer for free for people of all ages. Over time the library has become the community centre the town lacks.
We must cherish this gift and ensure it is not taken away.
