Maternity care was exemplary

We only ever seem to hear about the negatives of the NHS, but these departments and staff are invaluable.

The midwife involved with my labour, Jo Suckling, stayed hours after her finish time to make sure everything went well and is now my community midwife.

Her support throughout my labour was fantastic and I couldn’t have got through it without her.

Everyone involved in Grace’s birth was just amazing – midwife Lynn Law, anaesthetist Richard Berry, Dr Malik and Dr Brown as well as Jo.

Grace’s heart rate was dropping at each contraction and the umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck.

There was real concern for her safety and if it hadn’t been for the actions and quick decision-making of these special people, who knows what could have happened.

I felt I must highlight the need for these staff and the absolutely fantastic job they do on a daily basis without the recognition they deserve, and also pass on my personal thanks to them.

They probably don’t often get feedback from people, but giving birth is a massive part of your life and something that will stay with you forever. I want them to know how special they made it for me and my partner, Wayne Shaw.
