Search is on for the Smiths

have been researching my family tree for many years now and am missing one branch of my Smith family research.

As my great-grandfather and great-grandmother lived and were buried in Dewsbury and most of their 10 children were born there I am hoping my family connection is still in Dewsbury.

I am researching my great uncle Herbert Smith who was born in Dewsbury on May 14, 1873.

Herbert married Florence Etherington in 1899 in Dewsbury. In the 1911 census the family was living at 1 Back Victoria Road and he was a “blacksmith” at the forge in Dewsbury. I am aware of four children born to Herbert and Florence, Albert Edward born in 1902, Eric born in 1904, Cyril born in 1906 and daughter Verena in 1909.

I was successful in finding a second cousin in Lancashire from another uncle through a newspaper obituary. But he had lost touch with his Dewsbury cousins in his teens, about 1956, and was unable to help me in my search.

I am hoping a great-grandson or great-granddaughter of Herbert and Florence will recognize the information and contact me at [email protected].

Researching “Smith” has been an overwhelming task. My mother, who is in her 98th year, is Herbert’s niece, and daughter of Herbert’s brother, Lance Gascoigne Smith. Finding a relative of Herbert’s would complete my Smith journey.
