Paralympian wheelchair sprint double gold medal winner Hannah Cockroft MBE will be in Spen on Thursday to officially open Gomersal Primary School.

Hannah, of Halifax, will unveil a plaque to mark the official opening of the following a £2m refurbishment programme and a move to a new site.

The former Gomersal middle school building has been transformed and now includes state of the art early years spaces both inside and outside featuring lots of opportunities for stimulating and interactive play.

Headteacher David Warbrick said “The move to the new building and the refurbishment which went with it is now complete and our new primary school has been transformed.

“Whilst we loved our original building, the change to a primary school last year simply meant there wouldn’t be enough room for us all in the future. This new building has given us all the space we need inside and out and children have the benefit of a new art room.”

He added: “I am delighted that inspirational wheelchair gold medallist Hannah Cockroft will be visiting to mark our official opening.”
