Parks are flagged up for top awards

parks in Kirklees are flying the flag for green spaces.

Crow Nest Park in Dewsbury and Wilton Park in Batley have been awarded Green Flag awards.

The Green Flag Award scheme is the benchmark national standard for parks and green spaces in the UK.

At Crow Nest Park the award is a reflection hard work carried out by grounds maintenance staff coupled with the recent refurbishment of the museum, greenhouse and the adventure playground.

Park charge hand Clare Berry said: “I don’t think it has sunk in. Until I see that flag up the flag pole I won’t believe it!”

Wilton Park and Bagshaw Museum are also celebrating their centenary year with a series of events funded by the Heritage Lottery.

Park warden Barry Daly said: “It’s fabulous and something we have been working really hard for over the past few years. I feel so proud.”

Oakwell Hall Country Park has also achieved its seventh Green Flag and Beaumont Park on the outskirts of Huddersfield also got the accolade.
