The centre, based on Westgate, is an independently run college for post-16 education and holds an annual food bank collection.

A spokesman said: “This year, with Covid-19 in mind, we have decided to start our collection early in hope of being able to donate more food than ever to our local food banks.

“Once the food items are gathered the students will decide where it will be donated.”

The college has set up a Facebook page (www.facebook.com/aspire2work) for people to gain more information.

The centre has also produced a video (tinyurl.com/y6dlc7ch) featuring the type of food items it is appealing for this year.
