Food bank donation centre created at Morrisons in Heckmondwike

The station has ‘Pick Up Packs’ that customers purchase with their shopping and then leave on a Food Bank Cage which is situated behind the checkouts.

All the products in the ‘Pick Up Packs’ are what food banks and community groups require.

“The response to this has been phenomenal,” said the store’s community champion Wendy Clough.

“We have such generous customers in our store. The local food banks and coommunity groups cannot thank our customers enough.

“As we near Christmas I will be putting more festive products in those Pick Up Packs to make Christmas that more special to those in need in our community.

“I have also set up a Christmas Toy Donation Station next to our Food Bank Cage behind the checkouts.

“This is for customers to donate new toys. The toys will then be donated to the Heckmondwike Salvation Army and the Loving Hands Outreach.”

“It’s really important to support the community at this time because there’s a lot of economic uncertainty.

“Morrison’s have continued to support food banks through this and I have reached over 12 community groups.

“I regularly donate the right kinds of products and foods that the food banks and community groups are in desperate need of.

“With our doorstep delivery service we’re now supporting the vulnerable, shielding and isolating as far as Morley.

“This service has been a real life saver for many of our customers.

“Our Toy Donation Station will be needed this year more than ever and I am encouraging colleagues and customers to donate.”

The store’s doorstep delivery service is still available to anyone who is self-isolating.
