Perfect day for car show

The sunny weather, a record turnout of more than 200 cars and the magnificent quality of the cars on show brought more than 2,500 visitors to the park.

The recent dry weather meant cars could also be displayed on the grass around the bandstand, making for a compact show with many delights for visitors, including minis and vintage buses.

The oldest car at the show was a 1928 cream Ford Phaeton – last year’s winner.

This year’s overall winner, voted for by YTCC members, was the superbly presented metallic green Ford Escort Mark 1, entered by Alan Binns, from Newmiller Dam, near Wakefield. The one previous owner of the 1973 car, with only 9,500 miles on the clock, likes to be kept in touch with her former car’s exploits. “I’ll be contacting her tonight to tell her it won,” said Alan, who initially had some difficulty persuading its Bournemouth owner to part with her treasure. The show, in its third year at Crow Nest Park, takes place each May, and a smaller show in October.
