But for 17-year-old Jacob Panther, he proved to be a cut above the rest – and received no faults at all from the examiner when he pulled back into Heckmondwike Test Centre on June 3.

Not only can he boast the perfect practical test – but the impeccable result was made all the sweeter because it was his first attempt.

Jacob, of Moorhouse Lane, Birkenshaw, said: “I was just shocked really. I thought everyone got a minor or two. I can get to work now without walking.”

Jacob, a butcher at Lane End Farm Shop in Tong, had been learning on-and-off for around six months.

Though Jacob’s driving instructor Jonathan Roberts thought he would pass, he said there was no indication that he would be so successful on the big day.

Instructor of 12 years Mr Roberts, of Brownhill Drive, Birkenshaw, said: “They are really rare. Most people pass with at least a few minors, so it’s quite a big deal in the driving test world.

“We did a practice a few days before and it didn’t go down too well so I was biting my finger nails down to the knuckles!

“When he came back, I was amazed. He’s one of those lads that shows no emotion. I think I was more pleased than he was. I work by recommendations, so it’s another feather in my cap!

“But he was smiling, he was over the moon. I’ll miss Jake, he’s a nice lad.”

Jacob has taken the result in his stride and said that he is not planning any special trips in his Ford Fiesta to celebrate.

Heckmondwike Test Centre, in High Street, hit the headlines in August 2013 for having an especially low pass rate.
