Mitch Developments Limited wants to redevelop a site which was previously used as a care facility by Kirklees Council.

The Grange in Chickenley Lane was one of 45 council-owned sites put up for sale last year with the hope of generating up to £25m for the council within five years.

The new home would be built by Darrington Healthcare Limited, which has one site in Pontefract and another currently under construction in Doncaster.

It would be a three storey building, with one floor dedicated to each of the three types of care to be offered – residential, dementia and nursing.

All the bedrooms would be single occupancy with ensuite showers.

Facilities would include a cafe, cinema, hairdresser and landscaped gardens.

Vehicle access would be via an existing entrance in Walnut Lane, with 15 parking spaces and four bike spaces.

The application said the site would generate a low level of traffic, with daily staff numbers of 12 to 14 people.

Public consultation on the plans closes on Friday February 21.
