Police appeal after broad daylight robbery in Dewsbury

A man made an escape after being dragged into a ginnel and punched during a daylight robbery in Dewsbury.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which took place at the junction of Bradbury Street and Lee Road, Ravensthorpe, yesterday (Thursday) between 1.30pm and 2pm.

The victim was walking along the street, close to a park and playing fields, when he was grabbed by the arm and dragged into the nearby ginnel.

The suspect demanded his money and phone but the man refused and was punched and dragged to the ground.

The assault continued and the suspect took a small amount of money from the victim’s pocket.

Managing to get up and run away over open fields, the man was chased by the suspect for a short distance.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 30s, 5ft 9in tall and of slim build. He was wearing a white hoody with blue jeans and his face was covered by the hood.

Detective Constable Andy Clayton, of Kirklees CID, said: “This attack happened in broad daylight and left the victim very shaken and distressed.
