Polish food store set for Park Fisheries site
AFTER a decade of dereliction, Park Fisheries is set to become a Polish food store.
Supermarket giant Tesco has confirmed that a new tenant is ready to move into the property.
It is understood that the former fisheries building will become an independent retailer, specialising in Polish food items.
Coun Kath Pinnock said: “I’m over the moon because the Park Fisheries is one of the oldest buildings in Cleckheaton town centre.
“This is an important building.” Deborah Hayeems, Tesco’s corporate affairs manager, has also confirmed that work to demolish Northgate and Albion Works is on track to take place this summer.
Kirklees Council received a notification from the company last month, signalling its intent to raze the buildings.
It already has planning permission to develop its Northgate store.
The current abandoned mill buildings will be replaced by a larger petrol station, according to the plans agreed in April 2010.
