Positive progress at Leeside Primary School

Leeside Community Primary School, in Leeds Old Road, Heckmondwike, was rated inadequate in June 2013 when inspectors criticised pupils’ progress, teaching, distribution of responsibilities, the school’s evaluation of itself and governors failing to ask searching questions.

But in two follow-up inspections Ofsted decided the school was making reasonable progress at sorting out its problems.

Chairwoman of governors Mel Woodcock said: “The findings were, without exception, very positive and confirm that the school is on track to be removed very quickly from the category of concern it was placed in last year.

“The improvements are the result of a great deal of hard work by all the school’s stakeholders, particularly the acting headteacher and the staff. This confirms that the children in the school are now receiving the high quality education to which they entitled.”
