The Friends of Rectory Park will be given the cash by the Heritage Lottery Fund after Kirklees councillors approved the bid at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

The 15 month ‘Rectory Park Gone Wild’ project will include the installation of four new interpretation panels, a pond dipping platform over the moat and the fencing off and signage of habitats. Thornhill Community Academy and the Overthorpe, Headfield and Thornhill Junior schools will get involved in a programme of activities, which will fit closely with the national curriculum for science.

The grant will compliment £164,000 of council funding to provide physical improvements to the park, including graffiti removal and de-silting of the moat.
