Hopes of a white Christmas look doomed this week as wet and windy spells look set to continue through to the big day.

Today:

Most parts will have a bright start but rain will arrive by midday to give a wet afternoon. Some of the rain could turn heavy before it clears from the northwest towards dusk. A breezy day with temperatures above normal. Maximum Temperature 11°C.

Tonight:

Dry with clear spells to midnight then further rain in the early hours. Temperatures initially dip but recover later as the cloud and rain move in. Minimum Temperature 5°C.

Tuesday:

A very mild and breezy day with some rain or drizzle at times. Some of the rain could be heavy and is unlikely to clear before dusk. Maximum Temperature 14°C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Feeling colder in the wind with sunshine and showers on Wednesday. Rain and gales clear Thursday morning to brighter skies. Further rain and wind later on Christmas Day.
