JUST two years after taking over a run-down pub, the new owners have been recognised for their dedication to real ale.
The New Inn at Roberttown has been named runner-up in CAMRA’s Heavy Woollen branch Pub of the Year for 2012. Andrew Kenyon and Susan Walker bought the pub from Enterprise Inns in autumn 2010.
From day one, it proved to be a hit with real ale enthusiasts, and was soon selling more than 1,000 pints a week. As the pub is not tied to a particular supplier, it can choose from independent breweries and three of the six beers are from Abbeydale of Sheffield, Leeds Brewery and Mallinson’s of Huddersfield, which brews a unique house beer, Bobtown Blonde, specially for the pub.
There is a real thirst for real ale in the village, demonstrated by the success of the last two Bobtown Beer Bashes – the third will be held in July.
The award was presented to Andrew and Susan by branch chairman Alan Mapplebeck. Overall winner was the West Riding in Dewsbury.
