Rams revamp and 200 homes plan submitted

PLANNING APPLICATION Councillors will decide whether to approve the stadium redevelopment and 203 homes on the site.

It is part of a deal which is hoped will secure the long-term future of the club.

Developer Stirling Investment Properties has submitted an application to build 203 houses on the Owl Lane site.

They will also provide a full size floodlit all-weather sports pitch and two floodlit all weather multi use games areas, footpaths and cycleways, as well as a 334 space car park for the Rams.

The Rams will generate income from commercial use of the facilities.

House builder Harron Homes has been signed up to build the properties, if planning consent is given by Kirklees Council’s Heavy Woollen Planning Committee.

The overall development site is 38.69 acres and houses will be two to four-bed properties including terraced, semi-detached and detached homes – 15 per cent will be housing association properties.

A public consultation has already taken place with 35 people attending information events and 23 submitting comments – 12 in support, four against and seven making general comments. Further comments on the proposals until April 10.

Rams chairman Mark Sawyer previously told the Reporter the plans would secure the future of the club for “many, many years.”
