Reporter building

The reception at the Dewsbury Reporter office in Wellington Road is to close from the end of March.

But we want to assure our readers and advertisers that it is business as usual at the Reporter Series and, in fact, it means you’ll probably see more of our reporters and sales teams out and about in the community.

The decision has been taken because, increasingly, our loyal customers, readers and advertisers are choosing to interact with us online or by telephone.

Our newspapers will, of course, continue to be published as they are now and our websites, Facebook sites and Twitter feeds will continue to grow and develop to bring you local news, sport, reader offers, information, advertising and much more when you want it and wherever you are.

The Reporter Series building is beautiful but, unfortunately, no longer meets the needs of a busy, multimedia company and we are, therefore, looking for lovely new, premises which better suit our requirements.

As a group of newspapers we are proud to say that our total audience - the number of people who read our news in print and online in some form - is growing. This is good news for our advertisers who are reaching an ever-bigger audience.

Editor Hannah Ridgeway said: “I realise that the Reporter building is iconic in the town. It’s a beautiful building but, sadly, doesn’t suit our needs any more.

“Modern technology means that journalists these days can report the news from their phones and laptops from pretty much anywhere. And our advertising representatives, helping businesses create multi-media advertising campaigns, need to be able to see people face to face, with the tools for the job. Office space is far less important than it used to be.

“However, as we still want a local base for our staff to work from when necessary, we are in the process of negotiating on a venue and I look forward to letting our readers know when and where that will be.”

From March 28 customers who wish to place classified advertisements and family notices can do so by telephoning 0207 023 7930
