A MAN was attacked with a baseball bat during a robbery in Cleckheaton this week.

The assault took place in Pyenot Hall Lane on Sunday evening, when two men were threatened by two suspects who demanded their mobile phones.

The incident happened around 6.30pm, and one of the men handed his phone over, but when the other explained he did not have his phone on him, he was hit with the bat.

The victims were left shaken and one had bruising where he was hit.

The first suspect was a white man, around 40 years old, 5ft 8ins tall and portly, wearing a red anorak.

The second man was white, around 20 years old, 5ft 7ins and slim. Both had the lower part of their faces covered.

A second incident happened in Windy Bank, Hightown, shortly after midnight on Wednesday when a teenager was hit with what is believed to have been a plank of wood.

The boy and his brother had gone outside their home in Eleventh Avenue after hearing a noise and were confronted by two men who demanded their mobile phones.

Police say the first suspect was 5ft 7in tall, medium build and wore dark trousers and a dark jacket with part of his face covered.

His accomplice was stockier, and also wore dark clothes with part of his face covered.

Both men ran off towards First Avenue.

Insp Tim Holland from the Spen Valley NPT said they were treating them as separate incidents.

“Although both seem similar in nature, they were nowhere near each other geographically and we have nothing specific to link them. We urge anybody with any information to come forward,” he said.

Witnesses or anyone with information about either robbery can contact Det Con Nicola Holdsworth at the Kirklees Robbery Team on 101 or via Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
