A KEEN young foodie from Spen is hoping there’s success on the menu at a top challenge next month.
Teenager Rory Davies from Roberttown has already cooked up a storm by getting to the finals of a Kirklees-wide contest.
And in a few weeks’ time, he will get to create his winning dish for the title Teen Chef of the Year.
Rory, 15, is one of four young chefs going head-to-head at one of the area’s biggest food and drink festivals.
Aspiring chefs were invited to take part in the competition to be crowned either Junior or Teen Chef of the Year, submitting their own ideas for a tasty breakfast dish. The four finalists are now preparing for their turn in the spotlight as they create their breakfast recipe at Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival on Sunday August 14.
For his entry, Rory cooked a Rarebit Breakfast using locally-sourced ingredients.
The winner of each competition will receive a trophy and the chance to cook at Holmfirth Food and Drink Festival.
The Junior Chef winner will also receive a cookery class while the Teen winner gets a voucher for dinner for two at a local restaurant. Runners-up will receive a cookery hamper and a finalist’s trophy.
