YOUNG speakers from two very different backgrounds were guests of Cleckheaton Rotary.
The first was Sam Wells, of Gomersal, who spoke of her forthcoming climb to the base camp of Mount Everest in memory of her best friend, and the second was Shaniek Parks, from Montego Bay in Jamaica.
Both are members of their local Rotaract Clubs.
Sam will be trekking in the Himalayas in a fortnight to raise money for the British Heart Foundation to honour her friend Kayleigh Edgar who died four years ago from pulmonary atresia.
Shaniek is a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar over in Leeds for a year studying for a post-graduate Masters Degree in International Communications.
She explained her background in Montego Bay, years of study at Kingston University, her objectives as a Foundation Scholar and her ambassadorial role when visiting local Rotary and Rotaract clubs.
Sam and Shaniek exchanged their experiences as part of Rotaract over dinner and, as Shaniek is part of the Leeds Rotaract club whilst in the area, a return visit to Leeds by the members of Cleckheaton club was planned.
