A HIGH school is set to double in size over the next five years.
BBG Academy, Birkenshaw, applied to Kirklees Council to expand and increase pupil numbers from 350 to 750, and teacher numbers from 49 to 97.
The former Birkenshaw Middle School is now an academy which will teach pupils aged from nine to 16. The plans give permission for a new sports hall and enhanced changing room facilities, landscaping and a new car park.
The buildings are expected to be used by community groups at evenings and weekends. Kirklees Council received three letters of objection including concerns over the possible impact on nearby homes, disturbance during building work and problems over access during school start and finish times.
Heavy Woollen planning sub-committee members voted last Thursday to grant permission.
