THREE Explorer Scouts from Spen will be embarking on the trip of a lifetime when they join 38,000 young people from all over the globe at the 22nd World Scout Jamboree.

Josh Newlands, Matthew Clough and Edward Maw have been fundraising for months to take part in the event in Sweden.

They will be setting off on Sunday, and spending a few days in Copenhagen, before moving on to Rinkaby on July 27 for the jamboree.

Once the jamboree has finished the young people will spend time with families spread across 18 different countries – Josh will be going to Finland, while Matthew and Edward will be heading to Poland.

Also making the trip is Lesley Austin, Spen Valley’s Assistant District Commissioner (Beavers), who will be part of the international service team.

The jamboree only takes place once every four years and 36 young people from West Yorkshire will form part of a 4,000-strong UK contingent.

Lesley said: “It’s a fantastic occasion where they can take part in lots of different activities and meet Scouts from all over the world.

“Josh, Matthew and Edward are really looking forward to it. They’ve worked so hard raising £2,000 each and now they can’t wait to get there.”
