Seeing eye to eye with your optician

AN opticians is loving its new scheme to encourage people to get their eyes tested.

In a survey by www.eyelovelocal.co.uk more than two million people admitted to never having had their eyes tested – Openshaw Opticians, in Central Arcade, Cleckheaton, is aiming to change this.

Optometrist Moin Valli, who owns the practice with resident optometrist partner Steve Dando, said: “Having regular eye examinations should be as much a part of your family’s health routine as visiting the dentist.

“We have joined the national Eye Love My Local Independent Optician campaign to encourage more people to take their eye health seriously.

“Without regular eye exams, dormant diseases and general health problems can lay undetected and in some cases prove fatal further down the line.

“The health of our eyes is so very important, and as part of the awareness drive we are encouraging local residents to visit their independent community optician and experience the very best in eye care.”

The national awareness campaign is run by Vision Matters and aims to promote the importance of eye health and the need for regular eye tests. It is pulling together eye care charities and health professionals from across the UK to persuade people to take their eye health seriously.

Moin added: “We are passionate about supporting the local community and promoting the importance of eye health.

“Part of our commitment is a free domiciliary service to elderly and disabled patients who are unable to visit our practices. We also visit local schools and community groups to deliver talks in order to raise the awareness of eye health.”
