Sir Patrick would return to Mirfield to perform at monastery

The project at the Community of the Resurrection was given planning permission earlier this year.

Sir Patrick said: “It was the first theatre I performed at, in a historical pageant. I must have been six-years-old, that was the last time.

“I always had a great respect for The Community of the Resurrection. It is one of the places I always visited. My job at the Mirfield Reporter meant I looked after that little corner of Mirfield and I always have happy memories of the community.”

Sir Patrick worked at the Reporter for a year before leaving the newsroom for the stage.

“I left because I was not very good at it,” he said. “It was not going to be a career for me.”

The actor, who is president of Huddersfield Town Academy, has been in West Yorkshire this week for the unveiling of a locomotive named after Huddersfield Town.

The ceremony took place at Huddersfield Railway Station yesterday (Thursday).

Mayor of Kirklees Ken Smith said: “It’s exceptional naming a train after a club. It only happens to the best ones. 
“I hope it bodes well for the new season.”

Town chief executive Nigel Clibbens said: “To find myself naming a locomotive after Huddersfield Town is a surreal experience.”

Before performing his duties for the club, Sir Patrick had spent some time in his hometown.

Among the places he visited was Brook’s Deli, whose delighted staff shared pictures online.

Sir Patrick said he came back to the town whenever he could.

And on the recent international coverage for his home county, Sir Patrick said the Tour de France had been a brilliant opportunity for West Yorkshire.

“It certainly advertised Yorkshire brilliantly, there’s no doubt about that - brilliantly,” he said.

“I hope it comes back and if it does come back I will do my best to be there.”
