Sisters raise thousands for worthy cause

Two Mirfield sisters have been getting into the fundraising spirit by helping to raise thousands for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Between them, Alex and Jessica Stratford have raised £3,800 for the charity.

Alex, who is landlady at the Travellers’ Rest in Hollin Hall Lane, held an event at the pub which included pig racing, a raffle, barbecue and a charity auction.

The fun-packed day collected £2,439 thanks to the support of generous punters.

Meanwhile, sister Jessica took part in Newcastle’s Great North Run at the weekend.

She managed to raise more than £1,000 after supporters sponsored her to take part in the world’s second biggest half marathon.

Alex said: “The reason behind us doing these events was a personal one, as both my grandmothers have suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease.”
