Slideshow: Record weekend for Dewsbury Beer Festival

Organisers estimated around 2,500 people visited Dewsbury Town Hall for the event, which ran from Thursday to Saturday.

Andy Kassube, a festival organiser, said: “It couldn’t have got any better for us. We sold out of the ciders, perries and world beers.

“We literally never stopped. There wasn’t one lull in the proceedings.”

The fourth annual festival was timed to coincide with the anniversary of Dewsbury Rugby League Club’s Championship victory in 1973.

Five members of the winning team - including John and Alan Bates, Harry Beverley and Joe Whittington - were at the town hall on Friday, when captain Mike ‘Stevo’ Stephenson officially opened the event.

Bombay Bob, a beer produced in the microbrewery at The New Inn, Roberttown, won beer of the festival, beating 88 other real ales from around the country.

Mr Kassube said: “It went fantastically well. It’s nice to get people back into the town and do something for Dewsbury.”
