Society chief says goodbye after 21 years

The Society for the Blind of Dewsbury, Batley and District bade a fond farewell to their chief executive of 21 years.
Hilary Schreiner stepped down from her role and introduced new centre manager Lisa Bownes at last Thursday’s annual meeting.
Hilary was presented with flowers, a gift voucher and a farewell cake.
Treasurer Terry Armstead said: “Hilary has been the rock of this society for so long.
“She has been an absolute pillar and tower of strength, and very committed to the blind and visually impaired, and very committed to the staff.
“On behalf of the society I just want to say how grateful we are to have had Hilary as our chief executive and to wish her all the very best in her future career.”
Hilary, who plans to volunteer at a junior school, recalled memories from her time at the society and said both staff and members were brilliant.
“That’s what makes this place special,” she said.
“We are still fighting for visually impaired people in north Kirklees.”
