Two women from Cleckheaton are through to the final of a regional beauty competition.
But the contest is unlikely to get nasty, as the two are the best of friends!
Lizzie Farrar, 22, and Rachelle Shaw, 23, have both reached the final for Miss West Yorkshire 2013 – though neither had any idea the other had applied to be in the competition.
Lizzie said: “When I found out I was in the final of Miss West Yorkshire, I couldn’t believe it! And then Rachelle texted me to tell me that she was also in the final. I didn’t even know she had entered!”
The Miss West Yorkshire final involves an eco-wear round, in which participants must create an outfit entirely from recycled materials, and Lizzie said that the two had been helping each other.
She said: “I think there will be a friendly rivalry, but we are really supportive of each other – we have to come up with our own ideas for the eco-wear round, so we have been sharing ideas.
“We see each other nearly every day – we go to the gym and keep fit together, so I don’t think this will get in the way of our friendship!”
Both Lizzie and Rachelle have full-time jobs, as well as running their own Cleckheaton-based modelling agency, Amazon Girls .
Rachelle’s story is all the more remarkable, as modelling helped her gain more confidence and overcome personal problems.
She said: “I was suffering from depression before I started modelling – there were some days that I would not even want to leave my bedroom.
“I only started taking up modelling in October, and I would say that it has really helped me – I want to use it to help raise awareness of people with problems like depression, because I don’t think it gets the recognition it deserves.”
Rachelle also got to the final of the Face of Britain awards last year, and attended the Urban Music Awards, where she presented winners with flowers.
The winners of Miss West Yorkshire go through to Miss England, whose past winners include top models Danielle Lloyd and Charlotte Holmes.
Lizzie added: “This is the first step – the winners get to go to Miss England, then who knows what could happen?”
The pair also plan to run a charity fashion show later this year in aid of ChildLine’s anti-bullying campaign.
The final for Miss West Yorkshire will be held at Gappolos in Huddersfield on Monday March 18. For more information, visit www.misswestyorkshire.com.
